As we started two weeks of Morning Prayer in three locations (Jurong West, Heart of God Church and Church of Singapore).
Thousands of members are coming together every morning at 7a.m. to pray.
SUPREME GOAL OF CHRISTIAN LIVING
The ultimate goal of having a consistent, disciplined prayer life = to get to know God more intimately.
‒ In fact, the supreme goal of Christian living = “to know Him.”
Phil. 3:7-14 ... v15 It’s a sign of maturity, when you have this same attitude within you.
Paul’s supreme motivation in life = “
to know Him.”
‒
NOTE: Paul had already been saved for at least 20 years when he wrote those words.
‒ The fact that you are saved, baptized in the Holy Spirit, attending an exciting church =X=> “you know Him.”
· It is like you are drowning, and you’re going underwater for the third time ...
‒ Then suddenly, a stranger comes along.
‒ He saves you ... resuscitates you ... gives you warm clothes ... sends you home and leaves his number.
‒ But you become too busy and forget all about getting to know this person who saved you.
POINT: You have been saved as a Christian, but you never bothered to get to know the One who saved you.
LESSON: A lot of believers are saved by a “Stranger” whom they have not really known as their Savior!
Paul was one of the chief apostles of his days (planted churches, did extraordinary miracles).
‒ Yet his main aim = X = to know about Him, but to know Him.
What about you today? What is your motivation in life?
Very often after being saved, we still go on with our same lifestyle, but now we add some Christian aspects to it.
Friends, are you like that? Do you just add some “Christian labels” to the lifestyle that you used to live?
‒ Or has your whole life and motivation changed after meeting your Savior?
Much of the New Testament is tied up with knowing God intimately.
‒ It’s not just knowing a fact, but knowing a Person.
John 14:6 Jesus = the Way, the Truth and Life.
The ultimate destination is always a Person.
● Truth is a Person.
● Life is a Person.
John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
● Peace is a Person.
Eph. 2:14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation.
If all you know are facts, theories and doctrines ... then you are missing out on what God wants you to have.
SO, HOW CAN WE KNOW GOD MORE?
We know God through ongoing fellowship with Him.
‒ It is a daily walk with God and involves fellowship, intimacy … something that is not religious (or something outward).
We must understand that the Christian life is a progressive pathway.
Ex. 18:20 A charge given to Moses.
Three things to note here:
1. “Way” = Heb. derek = manner of life or mode of action.
- It is the manner we live our lives ... our behavior and lifestyle.
“Way they must walk” => A path or a road that a person takes for a considerable distance!
In other words, a course of life = a life journey that we take step by step.
E.g. A person who “walks in pride” => Not just a one time
occurrence.
- A person who “walks in the flesh” => Not just once, but it’s his
manner of life.
2. “Show them” = Heb. yada => to know by seeing.
- In other words, it is not a concept or just a theory.
- It is a lifestyle you can demonstrate.
3. Notice the Bible order ... first the way, then the work.
- God is not just concerned with what you do, but the way you go about doing it.
Ps. 103:7 God made known His ways to Moses.
God has a particular manner of life ... a mode of action ... a course He is taking.
E.g.
Ps. 145:17 ... the ways of the Lord are righteous and full of
grace.
The way you live your life will determine the kind of work you will produce.
Prov. 21:8 The way of the guilty man will produce perverse work.
- But the way of the pure will produce righteous work.
So first the way, then the work.
- That is why before Jesus gave the Great Commission ... He first reminded us of the Great Commandment.
WHAT MANNER OF LIFE ARE YOU LIVING NOW?
The “way” we live our life,...
- How we live and think constantly.
- The path we are walking on ...
... Will determine the work that we ultimately produce.
Jesus wants us to be people of the greater works, but we must first know Him as the Way.
What manner of life are you living? Are you living in God’s way?
Are you a person that is:
- Full of love for others and you don’t bear bitterness in your heart?
- Walking in truth, righteousness and holiness?
- Positive? Can you have faith in God easily?
- Standing on the promises of God’s Word all the time?
- Walking in humility and ready to avail yourself to God?
What is the course of life that you are on?
Jer. 18:15 If we are not careful, we too can be like the children of Israel and walk in a pathway instead of God’s highway of Holiness.
Is. 35:8-9 There is another way, the “way” of the Lord.
- A way that brings blessings, protection ... a way for believers.
· Friend, I want to challenge you to consecrate yourself to the Lord again.
· I want to challenge the you to know God and to walk in the way of righteousness and truth.
· Lastly I want to challenge you to come for the Morning Prayer Meetings. Amen.
